IVIMEDS Content
The IVIMEDS learning object repository (LOR) houses a wide variety of learning resources to support medical education including
- Learning assets such as anatomical illustrations, clinical images, CT scans, ECG traces, pathology slides etc which can be downloaded by teachers and incorporated into lecture presentations, study guides, clinical scenarios and e-learning resources.
- Increasing numbers of bespoke learning objects which have been developed by in-house multimedia developers in close consultation with clinical and subject experts in partner schools. Many of these resources are Flash animations that focus on specific concepts and principles and include a degree of interactivity or self-assessment features. These resources can serve as a quick revision aid for students and again teachers can use them in a variety of teaching contexts in their institution.
- A range of video resources such as
- clinical experts sharing their expertise on clinical treatments, health economics, epidemiology and health promotion
- doctor patient consultations and patient examinations
- Guided learning modules assembled from learning objects retrieved from the IVIMEDS LOR, which provide learning programmes on specific topics. These modules have been developed by individual teachers and groups by taking a variety of learning objects and linking them together with their own teacher commentary, clinical notes and self-assessment features. These modules can be used as are or edited and customised as appropriate and are available as SCORM/IMS content packages for local delivery.
- Virtual patients in the form of SCORM content packages can be downloaded and customised for local use. Teachers can choose whether they allow their students to access a virtual tutor function and on-line study guides to support the virtual patient case. The use of virtual patients emphasises the integration of theory and practice, a holistic approach to patient management and the need for continuing care.
