ImplementationIVIMEDS resources can be customised by partner schools and used in different ways. This includes the use of selected IVIMEDS resources to enhance or replace modules within an existing programme or the implementation of an alternative track with students learning in different settings and/or with different learning architectures. IVIMEDS partner schools have used guided learning modules in the cardiovascular system in the early years of the undergraduate medical curriculum and in some instances the modules have replaced lectures. Developing content to meet interoperability standards has ensured that the content can be delivered locally by each partner school in their own virtual learning environment (VLE). IVIMEDS content has been delivered in BlackBoard, WebCT, Angel and also home grown VLEs. Some partner schools have a clinical scenario/case driven curriculum and have e-learning embedded in their curricula. These schools have taken IVIMEDS resources and incorporated them into the clinical scenarios which have been developed locally for use in their teaching programmes. Others are introducing a series of clinical symposia to their curriculum and integrating IVIMEDS resources such as guided learning modules and virtual patients in this context. Elements of e-learning are presented in an introductory lecture to give context, highlight key points and trigger further study. Students complete the e-learning sections of the course independently on the understanding that they will be assessed in these areas. The IVIMEDS core team supports partner schools in their use of IVIMEDS recourses helping with technical issues and modifications to content. Team members also contribute to staff development initiatives in partner schools including participating in workshops and e-learning symposia. Further support for partners can be accessed via the IVIMEDS members portal. |
